Red – Light Alerts cancelled

Using SEPA Craighall flow gauge and
medium range weather forecast the Red-light Alerts issued on 7th
April and 3rd May can now be cancelled.
The adult screens at the entrance and exit to the lade should remain
closed.
Thank you for your understanding and co-operation during the driest
period experienced for 60 years. Reducing abstrac3on during the
Red-light periods has resulted in additonal water going down the
weirs, roughly equivalent to the contents of an Olympic swimming
pool being released down the weirs every 25 minutes!
This additonal water enabled both smolts and adults to pass through
safely and avoided serious strandings that would have occurred this
year had this not been the case.
This has been a wonderful example of businesses, regulators and
community working together to save Wild Salmon.
